Canada Alaska 2008 Motorcycle trip Day 36

Day 36 – We had lots of on-the-water cruising time. We stopped at Sitka during the day. We had the choice of staying on the Ferry, Walking around near the dock, or taking a bus the several miles into Sitka. We walked around near the dock by walking the road away from Sitka city from the ferry dock and walking some hiking trails. We saw rain forest, Bear Scat, Salmon, and generally lots of nature's beauty.
Some of the trails were closed because of Momma Grizzly and cubs in the area. On the bay we walked around there were signs all over warning about Grizzlies with cubs in the area and that they would steal fish from fishermen. We saw a few people pulling in BIG Salmon, but no bears came to steal from them. Darn! The little river/inlet we walked around had thousands of Salmon jumping out of the water in the bay, but they were not heading up-stream yet. People said the water was still too cold in the streams.

The question: Do bears poop in the woods would be answered, "No. They poop on the trail". There were piles of Grizzly Bear poop all along the trail. We could tell it was Grizzly poop because it smelled like chili peppers and had bells in it. Ha Ha.
Back on the Ferry there were many, many Humpback Whales and some Porpoises/Dolphins while we were underway.

Stopped at Petersburg on Mitkof Island around midnight and when departing Petersburg we transited the Wrangell Narrows (nicknamed Pinball Alley / Christmas Tree Lane). We set our alarm and woke-up for watching this. Very narrow and complex navigation. It was cool to watch for about 1.5 hours but then we went back to sleep.
