Day 34 – We woke to 2 Cruise ships at the docks and people all over town. We walked to the Laundromat and during the wash we walked to the Ferry bldg. It was closed until after 16:30 ~ 19:00. We finished the laundry and took it back to our room. We then walked by the shops to see what was there. Then we went to the “Corner Cafe” and had brunch. We saw our homeless friend from the night before come in while we were there. Then we walked around some more.
We met an LDS Church member coming home from church and he told us about an informal 30 min Sacrament Meeting at 19:00 on Sunday nights during the summer. The meeting was for working students that are in Skagway for summer jobs. He is an accountant at WhitePass railroad (for tourists mostly).
Jennifer wrote postcards. Then we rode ~10 miles to Dyea [Pronounced Die-e] (old mining town).

We also rode over the rough dirt roads to the Tidal Flats. The road in was a beautiful Rain forest with lots of peat moss on the ground. It was a good road to Dyea of hard Chloride dirt. Almost like concrete/blacktop. When we returned to Skagway both Cruise ships were gone. The town was empty and all the shops were closed again! We went to check the Ferry situation and pick-up our tickets. We went to our hotel again and changed out of our riding ATGATT ("All The Gear All The Time" armored/protective gear) gear and walked to church. We met an LDS Church member coming home from church and he told us about an informal 30 min Sacrament Meeting at 19:00 on Sunday nights during the summer. The Skagway Branch LDS church was a cute shaped-log Bldg. We met Branch President Hess who is "technology" for the School District (of only 100 Students!). His work involves IT and various other things.
We met Tour Bus Driver Aaron who told us about his long days driving the Cruise Ship tourists in a tour bus while they are in town. 12 Hours driving are common for him from Skagway to Carcross/Emerald Lake and back with various stops. He had to learn the descriptions of each stop by studying on his own.
After church all the student/younger members were having a potluck.
Branch President Hess told us the Stake President only allowed that special after-hours Sacrament meeting if it is limited to 30 minutes and was the Sacrament only. The Stake President did not want it taking members from the main meetings earlier in the day. Many young people attend both when they can, so it does not seem to really detract from the main meetings. We returned to our little hotel and ate at the restaurant downstairs again. We had Italian and Caesar salads. We returned to our room and read for a few minutes before turning in.
