Day 9 - Wednesday -
View Larger MapWe rode from the Econolodge in Centralia, Washington to Spence's Bridge in BC Canada in the Fraser River Canyon. The Border crossing was not at Vancouver but at the small inland town of Sumas. The traffic after the border crossing getting to CA1 Hwy was amazingly bad! It was beautiful country though (after the crossing traffic). We finally hit roads and scenery that were the reason we came riding. It was a cool ride up CA1 to Spence’s Bridge. The whole way was up Fraser River/canyon.The river had a few spots of rapids, but it was mostly wide and fast with a large and quiet flow. When we got to Spence’s Bridge we found that there was actually a bridge called Spence's Bridge! Someone named Spence built a bridge in 1860s, it washed-out in a flood and Spence rebuilt it in 1891. The 1891 Bridge is still standing but no trucks are allowed across it. Our B&B room looks over the Fraser river but that window didn't open. Sadly the only food available at the Inn was a Vegetarian dinner. The previous owners had been Hare Krishna and the new owners kept the old menu. The new owners were a couple from Toronto and they were not Vegetarian! There was a cat roaming around after we checked-in and Eric had an allergy reaction in morning. There was also a train switching yard on the opposite side of the hotel across the street. There were trains during the night, but not loud enough to keep us awake.
