Canada Alaska 2008 Motorcycle trip Day 13

Day 13 -
View Larger MapWe stayed in Stewart for another night so we could see the local sights. It was cloudy and cool, but no rain in the afternoon. The sealed roads were dry, the dirt/gravel roads were just dry enough and not dusty. There was still standing water in the small washboards/potholes. We rode through Hyder, AK and up Salmon Glacier Road to the top.

There were no Moose at Moose Pond.

Also it wass too early still and there were no Bears eating Salmon at Fish Creek. We could see where they had flattened the grass along the riverbank, but none could be seen yet. There were only 3 salmon in the creek and apparently that is not enough to get Grizzlies into the water.

The Salmon Glacier was huge and very cool to see and it was a fun dirt road ride up. Continued up past Salmon Glacier also to Berendon Glacier. Smaller but cool 30+ mile ride to the top of the road. There was another small glacier a little farther up the road from Berendon that we saw.

We heard a rumor in town that the rain we rode through to get to Stewart/Hyder yesterday was pretty intense further north. The Cassiar Highway had closed to the north yesterday when the road washed-out! Hopefully tomorrow there would be no problems getting to Telegraph Creek Road, and then to Telegraph Creek on that very long dirt road.

We returned to the Inn and had dinner again at the Bitter Creek Cafe. We split 2 salads – a Caesar Salad and an Artichoke hearts, avocado, candied pecans, mandarin oranges, goat cheese, butter lettuce w/raspberry vinaigrette salad - both salads with a chicken breast.
