Canada Alaska 2008 Motorcycle trip Day 25

Day 25 -
View Larger MapThe 25th is Eric's Birthday. We had a nice breakfast and did our best to check out of the B&B by 11:00. The weather was calmer than yesterday so we went out to Miller's Landing hoping to catch a late kayaking tour to the calving glacier. No luck, we were too late. The weather would have allowed it, but we missed the tour by hours. None of the available tours interested us so we changed our plans. At Miller’s Landing we saw the funny sight of a fishing charter loading-up the boat, and everyone got on the boat while it was still on the trailer and then they launch the boat! On our way out of Seward we stopped at the NAPA auto parts store (lots of boat parts also!) to get some extra tire repair string for the rest of our M/C trip. We also stopped at the grocery store and bought supplies to have a barbecue/picnic.

We heard that there were several sightings of Grizzly/Brown bears at Bear Creek Weir so we drove there. We saw warning signs all over about a Moma bear and cubs in the area and we saw the salmon jumping the fish ladder, but no bears were around at that time.

We then visited Exit Glacier just outside of Valdez. There were signs along the road up to the parking area and signs along the trail from the parking area to the Glacier showing how much the Glacier has receded over the last 200 years and where the Glacier reached in any given year.
We took the easier hike to the side of the glacier and took some pictures. 'Becca drove us to a beautiful place called Hidden Lake on our way home to Kenai and we had a wonderful lunch. Eric and Jacob made a fire and we roasted hot dogs, sausages and s'mores. Along with the cucumbers, celery and carrot sticks that we brought and the root beer that we purchased, we had a delicious "complete" meal. The weather was wonderful, the lake was calm and clear, it was perfect. We packed up and got back to the house about 20:00.
There was a birthday mini-celebration for Eric's Birthday.
We watched the "clean-flicks" version of the movie, "The Kingdom of Heaven" and went to bed at Midnight. Below is a view out the bedroom window at 23:30. What a view!No big plans for tomorrow. We need to prepare the bikes and ourselves for the rest of our trip.
