Canada Alaska 2008 Motorcycle trip Day 11

Day 11 –
View Larger MapIn spite of the horrible conditions, we slept in a little late and left the hotel about 10:20 planning to get breakfast at the first place we saw. We got gas just down the street and set off. Nothing but gas stations and no food after that on our way out of town. It was gorgeous weather. We stopped for lunch at Tim Horton's (sort of a Canadian deli/donut chain that is clean and has good food) at 12 noon in Vanderhoof. We met a nice US Ex-Patriot who was telling us how long and why he was now living in BC. He sounded like he was justifying abandoning the US.
We saw road signs to watch for Deer and Moose but no actual wildlife. Later we were the first to stop at a lonely road construction site flag person. This lady was strangely very happy to see us. We understood why when she said that a Mother Bear w/2 cubs had crossed the road 5 meters away from her right before we came. We stopped for gas one more time along the way and stopped a couple of times for picture taking before arriving in Smithers, BC for the night at 17:00. We went straight to the local laundromat and then came back to the hotel to drop off the clean clothes. We had forgotten earlier to do the daily chain lube so we oiled Jennifer’s chain, then went to dinner at Boston Pizza. We felt adventurous so we tried the Canadian specialty called Poutain that was Fries with mozzarella and gravy. It tasted OK, but it won't make it in the US. The hotel was nice and clean, we slept well. There was a great hot cholesterol breakfast included!
